Surround Sound

The idea of using surround sound for the exhibition was dropped during the later stages of the project. Although the team is capable of setting up a 5.1 system using the school’s resources, the issue here was really about the sonic imaging when working on the sound design using our laptops at home; we could only work within a stereo audio image. Thus it was decided that since working on stereo means saving more time, and was more practical, the idea of surround sound was dropped.

THE 10.2 (not sure how much logic supports up to)

What does Nuendo do that Cubase doesn’t?
Here is list of some of the additional features, as of May 13 2005. For a complete list click here.

Summary

we’ll most probably aim for 10.2, since 22.2 is not yet commercilised. it would cost us $2342352346436 if we really want it, and currently, i have yet to find any source which guides us on setting up the 22.2.
10.2 actually stands for 12 Surround Channel and 2 LFE speaker. Instead of 12.2, it is denoted as 10.2 to show that it is twice as better than 5.1

OR
5.1 , which is usually used in high end home theatres. <– we might go for this if 10.2 isnt possible.

OR

custom made – using the technology we have been given, we MIGHT be able to create our own set up by placing speakers where we want it. many sets of stereo can give u surround. – just an idea.

so……

22.2 – ultra high blah blah, out of the question.

10.2 – still possible <– our current aim!, includes vertical pans.
( requires Nuendo programm. Pro tools and logic MIGHT not support, so *censored XD* hard to find coz ppl don give direct ans…)

5.1 – easiest way out. many home theatre use this. this is only horizontal panning.

custom – our own way by combining the basics of everything. eg. combining 2 of 5.1 systems, not to a single 10.2 but instead, 2 sets of 5.1. (THIS MIGHT BE OUR BEST BET)

really alot of things to read about, and alot i have yet to fully read through, we’ll have to understand what the systems can provide before doing the production stuff.

and…. about going out to record, we might still need more information.
1. look at the first link, mics that record up to 360 degrees etc.
2. how are we going record it, using stereo(connecting 2 mics den record), or just record a mono.

Final conclusions – either 10.2 , 5.1 or custom.

EDITED

for those who don get what i mean ^^.

NOTE: several brands have their “subwoofer in their “”spliter”", this only applies to set 2.

a 5.1 surround set consists of 5 speakers, 1 subwoofer, one “splitter”(whatever u call it).

NOTE: some “splitters” are installed in the DVD itself.

for those who really really really still don know visit this lilnk that first picture.

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/rock-the-house/jvc-th+l1-51-surround-system-for-gamers-and-home-theater-too-272744.php

this is an example of set 2

for set 1, just change that buttons thingy to include a dvd and whola.

the that NOTE thing above, just combine the button thingy with the subwoofer.
