So our sound designers worked through the entire day in Vista C. We won’t say it’s a long day but it certainly was tiring, and after awhile, everything we heard sounded like the underwater sound effects we were working on. In general, today’s post-production session was tiring and in certain ways tedious but we managed to accomplish the following:

1. Finalise specific duration for each station
2. Sequence and arrange metal rods and water movements samples
3. Compose base layer for entire installation
4. Work on balance and equalisation of tracks
5. Successfully design a jump out of water and back in sequence

Through the entire process, we constantly compared and contrasted, discussed, asked for feedback, and improved on what we felt could be lacking or overpowering in the section we were working on. A process like this gave us the opportunity to discover a couple of interesting sonic textures and gestures by chance – some of which we liked so much that we are deciding to include in our final piece.

Designing sound may include quite a fair amount of creativity but our next step for the post-production is something that is more technical – it involves putting everything into one continuous track spanning 8 to 9 minutes, and of course making sure that it sounds good (to us at least).

We’ve got less than a week. Granted time may not be on our side, but it’s good to know that all hands, feet, ears, and brains are finally coming together – just as how our project is.
